After prepositions and modals

Where the masdar earns its keep - after بعد, قبل, بدون and بحب

Here is where the masdar becomes genuinely useful. After a preposition, English wants an -ing form: after eating, before leaving, without asking. Arabic wants a masdar, and using one saves you the whole "قَبل ما" construction.

Both are correct. The masdar version is shorter and sounds more fluent.
