Family words almost never turn up bare — you say my mother, his brother. The possessive endings from Basics attach straight onto them, with one wrinkle: "إِمّ" and "أَخ" change shape a little when they take one.

Phrases
"أَب" becomes "أبوي" rather than "أبّي" — it's one of a small handful of nouns that grow a "و" before the ending. "أخوك", your brother, does the same.
