الوَلَد طَوِيل

Making a statement

Take ال off the adjective and you've said "is"

To make a statement, the noun must be definite and the adjective indefinite.

Phrases

By removing ال from the adjective, you've said something about the boy.

That's how Arabic says "is": the noun keeps its "ال", the adjective drops it, and nothing goes in between.
